Waukon Scores Victory in Tourney Opener

The Indians had their first home game of the season and hosted in fine fashion defeating the Riceville Wildcats 76-22 in front of a nice crowd Friday November 28th.

Waukon led the entire game and pushed the score in their favor with full court man to man press defense leading to steals and timely assists.  The Indians also got good scoring from the post players in the half court set.

Mary Halvorson led the way for the Indians with 22 points shooting 50% from the floor and also 4-5 from the FT stripe.  Halvorson also chipped in on the Boards recording 7 rebounds.  Carissa Berger was second in scoring with 13 points, she was 50% from the floor and the FT line, also adding 6 steals, 4 assists, and 2 rebounds.  The third Indian in double digits was Kristyna Herman with 12, she was 6-7 from the floor and notched her second “double-double” of the season with 10 rebounds.

Also scoring for the Indians was: Hjerleid 6, Schlake 5, Reiser 4, Sivesind 4, and Egan, Meyer, Brink, Dreckman and Blocker all adding 2 points for Waukon.

Waukon will face Spring Grove tomorrow night (Saturday) in the Waukon Holiday Classic final, gametime starting aprox. 6:30
