Indians Take Down North Fayette

The Waukon Indians were rounding out their non conference schedule on Saturday night as they hosted the North Fayette Hawks.  Waukon will conclude the season with 7 straight NEIC games starting next tuesday at Oelwein.

Waukon got off to a quick start once again, Mary Halvorson got her first basket of the night with a circus shot which could have drawn a foul as well, her back hit the floor about 16 feet from the rim before the ball was finished going through the net.  Logan Hjerleid also got in on the early scoring barage with 3 early baskets in the first quarter as the Indians used great defense and some quick scoring opportunites to build a 19-2 lead after one quarter.

Waukon playing without the services of starting forward Kristyna Herman got good production out of Jordon Reiser and Keri Egan at that position through the game.  Reiser had two mid range jumpers and a couple of nice assists during a run in the second quarter.  Keri Egan was 2-2 from the line and had a couple of steals as the Indians built the lead 30-13 at the half.

Waukon pushed another big quarter across the board during the third as Halvorson continued to get some baskets down low while many other Indians who got in the game got some scoring opportunities.

The starting five was out of the ball game for good around the 6: 30 mark of the fourth quarter and the Tribe’s reserves took them down the stretch for the 64-23 victory.

Halvorson led the way on the night with 17 points and 10 rebounds.  Hjerleid knocked home 14 points while collecting 3 steals.  Chelsey Dreckman finished with 8 points including 4-4 from the line on the night.

Carissa Berger finished with 7 points, second on the team with 4 rebounds and tied for the team high of 5 assists.  Reiser had 6 points with 3 steals and 3 assists.  Tatum Meyer finished with 4 points and team highs of 5 assists and 6 steals on the night.  Egan finished with 4 points and 3 steals.
