Posted in Uncategorized on November 28, 2010 by waukongirlsbball

The Waukon Indians new they were up against a tough team going into saturday night. Pretty much the same cast of players from last years Lions team that gave the Indians all they could handle last season.

Waukon trailed early 4-0 but got back in the game in a hurry with a basket from Alissa Smith and then an offensive rebound and put back by Maddie Reiser who was fouled and completed the 3 point play. Cassandra Berger then scored 8 out of the next 10 points for the Tribe, with Chelsey Dreckman adding a bucket inbetween a 3 point play and a 3 point bomb by Berger to give the Indians a 15 to 9 lead late in the first quarter.

Spring Grove answered with a run of their own outscoring the Indians 12-0 over the next 5 minutes giving them a 23-17 lead, which was ended finally by another transition basket by Dreckman. Mullen Wacker got into the act then with a couple of free throws and a driving layup which made the halftime score even at 25 appiece.

The Third quarter started and the Lions kicked up the tempo. Baskets did not fall and the Indian defense could not stop the running Lions as they were outscored 19 to 6 in that quarter which pretty much told the tale of the game.

Waukon tried a couple of different things in the fourth but Spring Grove seemed to handle all of them and controlled the game. Final Score 55-42 Lions.

Berger lead the Indians with 10 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals on the night. Wacker also popped in 10. Alissa Smith added 9 points and 7 rebounds. Maddie Reiser tallied 6 points and 5 rebounds, and Dreckman ended with 4 points and 4 rebounds on the night.

Alissa Smith and Mullen Wacker made the all tournament team for the Indians.
