Posted in Uncategorized on December 8, 2010 by waukongirlsbball

The Waukon Indian girls basketball team had won 27 straight games vs NEIC foes, last friday that streak was snapped vs Charles City. It only took the Tribe 3 days to right the ship and get back on the winning track as they had a dominating second half vs a Decorah Vikings team with 10 seniors on its roster.

The young Indians team inexperience was not showing up during that stretch after trailing by 4 at the halftime break.

Mullen Wacker led a total team effort with 24 points and was the games high scorer. Senior Chelsey Dreckman had a great game with 15 points as well. Junior post Madison Reiser had her best game as a varsity Indian as she had 11 points and rebounded huge down the stretch. Fellow junior post Alissa Smith posted her average 8 points and added to her NEIC league lead in rebounds. Cassandra Berger had 5 points on two key baskets. Megan Stewart had multiple hustle plays and some nice additions to the game from the post and wing. Sophmores Eli Ronan and Daneisha Snitker got valuable game experience and chipped in nicely in the rotation.

Indians Victorious 69-54

Final Stats and story to be updated tomorrow evening.

The young Waukon Indians headed to Charles City for their first true road test in a tough enviorment on Friday night.

Waukon started off with a 3-0 lead on a Chelsey Dreckman 3 pointer, then let Charles City run off 7 points in a row before an Alissa Smith free throw and a Cassandra Berger 3 pointer tied it back up at 7 appiece. The Comets pushed the lead to 16-11 late in the first, only to have Mullen Wacker score 7 straight points herself and Smith to add another bucket to bring the first quarter to and end trailing 18-16.

Both teams battled through the second quarter back and forth. Cassandra Berger nailed 2 more from downtown, while Dreckman and Smith both added a basket each to take the Tribe to a 25-25 tie at halftime.

The third quarter was once again rough sledding for the Tribe as they were outscored 19-10.

In the fourth Waukon was struggling and trying alot of different lineup combo’s, along with having pg Wacker foul out with 5 minutes to play. With all the adversity the Indians still managed to cut into the Comets lead to make it 48-42 with 3 and a half minutes to go. The Comets senior leadership and great play by Abby Lasher was too much for Waukon to overcome as the game ended with the Comets victorious 62-48.

Waukon had a balanced scoring attack as follows: Wacker and Berger with 9 points each. Smith put in 8 points, Daneshia Snitker had 7 points, Megan Stewart popped in 6, Dreckman with 5 and Eli Ronan had 4.

Stewart led in rebounds with 6, Dreckman and Wacker both pulled down 5 rebounds in the contest.
