Indians start new year with Victory over Cresco

The Indians battled yet another tough NEIC opponent friday night and started off a little slow once again trailing by 9 points in the early going.

The Indians battled foul trouble in the early going as they put Cresco in the bonus before the first quarter was over. The Indians kept in the game early with baskets from Mullen Wacker and Chelsey Dreckman, and also got 3 long range 3 pointers from Cassandra Berger.

The Indians trailed 26 – 23 at halftime.

Cresco came out and hit two quick 3 pointers of their own in the third to take a 40-32 lead halfway through the third quarter. The Indians changed defense and started scoring the ball better into the fourth. Wacker hit 5-6 free throws down the stretch to ice the game for a 51-47 win.

Waukon outscored Cresco 21-7 in the last 12 minutes of the game, after trailing 40-32.

Wacker led the Indians with 20 points. Dreckman and Berger had nine points each. Daneshia Snitker was crucial down the stretch again with 6 points all coming in the 4th. Madison Reiser, Megan Stewart, Eli Ronan and Alissa Smith combined for 26 rebounds and 8 points in their limited action in the post, rebound was a huge key in the game for the Indians.

Waukon plays next at North Fayette on Friday Janurary 14th
