Indians Move to 2-1 With Victory over South Winn

The Indians girls basketball team played their 3rd game in four days without a practice Monday night. Waukon played very well in spurts but could never really slam the door on the Warriors, however they were never under any crucuial pressure as their lead was between 10 and 15 most of the second half. Waukon prevailed 59-48. Daneshia Snitker led the Indians with 18 points, Cassandra Berger had 11 including three 3 point bombs. Alissa Smith was solid again with 9. Abie Mellick had very solid minutes once again for the Indians scoring 7 points on the night. Eli Ronan finished with 6 despite foul trouble, Mullen Wacker finished with 5 and Corbin Snitker added 3 points for the Tribe.

Waukon gets one day of practice and then faces off vs Charles City at home Thursday December 1st.

Indians Fall to Spring Grove in Tough Championship Game

The Waukon Indians played a tough game vs a seasoned Spring Grove Lions squad but could not pull out the victory in the end.

The Indians had a balanced scoring attack again led by Daneshia Snitker with 15, Mullen Wacker with 14, Alissa Smith with 12 and Cassandra Berger with 11 but could not overcome the big games by Richelle Mehuess and Taylor Elton with 26 and 20 respectively.

Waukon will move on to face South Winn on Monday November 28th.

Spirit Lake defeated Cedar Fals for 3rd place in the tournament.

The Waukon JV was again victorious vs Spring Grove 42-21

Indians Prevail in tough game vs 3A #13 Spirit Lake

The Waukon Indians started the season with their annual Thanksgiving weekend tournament vs #13 ranked Spirit Lake on Friday November 25th. Waukon trailed 7-1 early, then recovered to hold a 12-7 lead late in the first quarter. Spirit Lake regrouped and went on an 18- 4 as Waukon struggled to score with Daneshia Snitker being held out due to picking up a 3rd foul late in the first quarter.

Waukon rallied to end the half trailing 31-29 after a 3 point basket by Mullen Wacker with under 10 seconds to go in the half.

Both teams battled hard through a back and fourth second half in which neither team held more than a four point lead until the end as Waukon was sinking free throws to ice the game with a 66-60 victory. K.J. Veldman led Spirit Lake with 31 points despite Waukon’s major efforts to keep her in check. Waukon had 4 girls in double figures led by Wacker with 22. Alissa Smith totaled 13, Daneshia Snitker scored 10 of her 12 in the second half and Cassandra Berger scored 11 including two crucial 3 point baskets. Junior gaurd Abie Mellick filled in for a quarter and a half as well and played a great game defensivley forcing a few turnovers and pressuring the ball while scoring a basket herself.

The Indians of Waukon face off vs a familiar foe in the Spring Grove Lions tomorrow night in the championship game. The Lions came from behind and handled 4A Cedar Falls with the score of 51-39. Spring Grove won the tournament last season and also defeated Waukon in a regular season match held in Spring Grove (mn) last season.

The Waukon JV was also victorious tonite over the Cedar Falls JV by the score of 40-33.

JV plays Spring Grove tomorrow at 3 pm. Spirit Lake will face off 20 minutes after the JV game is over. And the Championship game will ensue after that aproximately 6: 45 tipoff.

Indians Down MFL in Jamboree Scrimmage

Waukon jumped out to an early 11-0 lead Tuesday night in their annual MFL Mar/Mac Jamboree scrimmage and did not look back.
Waukon used a balanced scroing attack to finish with a 40-20 ending.

Mullen Wacker and Daneisha Snitker led the way with 10 points each. Cassandra Berger knocked home 5 points. Eli Ronan and Alissa Smith each scored 4 points for the Tribe.

Waukon now has 8 days to prepare for their own Thanksgiving weekend tournament. Saturday’s game is against Spirit Lake. The other matchup features Spring Grove (mn) vs Cedar Falls.

Indians Set to Start 2011-12 Season

The Waukon Indian girls basketball team started practice today November 7th.

The Indians will participate in the Annual MFL Mar/Mac Jamboree on Tuesday November 15th going up against the Bulldogs for a half game scrimmage starting between 8 and 8 30 pm.
