Indians lose on buzzer beater vs Charles City

Posted in Uncategorized on December 3, 2011 by waukongirlsbball

In a game where Waukon seemed to control but never take ahold of the Indians were defeated in one of the toughest fashions you can imagine. Waukon led by 9 points going into the fourth quarter despite not playing up to their total potential seemingly during the game. Waukon went to the control game slowing it down vs Charles City’s non pressure man to man defense.

The Indians missed crucial free thows and a couple of decent scoring opportunities down the stretch and the Comets took advantage tieing the game at 50 each with 30 seconds to go. Waukon and Charles City seemed to settle for the Indians to settle to hold for one shot. Mullen Wackers drive to the basket with 6 seconds to go was shut down and Eli Ronan was fouled on her rebound and put back try with 4.0 seconds remaining. Ronan missed the first but hit the second free throw giving the Tribe a 51-50 lead.

Charles City inbounded the ball following a timeout to about half court, a pass was made to the wing about 28 feet from the basket in which a second pass was immediately made to a cutting post player who caught the ball and stuck a running 6 foot layup over outstretched defending hands as the buzzer sounded and was called good!

A tough ending to a competitive game and the Indians will just have to try to learn and get better from this game and not let it get them down. Daneshia Snitker led the Indians with 19 points while adding 5 rebounds. Mullen Wacker finished with 12 points and 5 boards as well. Eli Ronan finished with a career high 11 points, while ripping down a team high 8 rebounds in a losing effort.

Waukon moves on to face a tough road test vs Decorah on Tuesday December 7th.
