Waukon Rolls Past South Winn In Season Opener

Waukon outscored the Warriors 20-8 in the opening quarter Friday night and never looked back on their way to a 58-33 victory.
The Indians struggled a bit offensively in the 2nd quarter against South Winn’s 2-3 zone defense as they settled for more than a handful of 3 point shot that were not on target. However the Indians solved the defense and put pressure on the ball with their own full court man to man to overall dominate the night.

Daneshia Snitker had a spectacular night as she scored a career high 31 points, ripped down 10 rebounds and had 9 steals, just falling short of a triple double. Junior center Alyssa Collins had a bright debut as a varsity starter as she scored 9 points, pulled down 7 rebounds and swatted 3 Warrior shot attempts. Courtney Wikan had 6 points and a team high 4 assists. Kiersten Christianson had 5 points and 4 steals from the wing and also played back up point gaurd in the game. Senior point gaurd Abie Mellick had 3 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 helpers in limited action due to foul trouble. Eli Ronan added a basket, had 7 rebounds and also swiped 3 steals for the Tribe.
