Indian JV/Varsity set to start season

The Waukon Indian girls basketball team opens the season Friday November 18th as they travel to their in county opponent class 1A #4 ranked Kee High.

Waukon lost to the Kee Hawks last season 56-38 and the previous season 61-39.  Kee High is coming off a record breaking season last year as they finished 22-3 and ended with a close loss in the State quarterfinals.  Kee High returns 3 starters from last season and 3 more players that came off the bench.

Waukon is coming off a 9-12 season and is a very young team overall, however they return six letter winners who logged valuable experience and minutes last season.

2015-16 2nd team NEIC all conference point guard Maddie Ahlstrom will not start the season as she is rehabbing from off season knee injury and is getting closer to return each day.

The Tribe will look to fill those shoes with a committee of guards that include sophmores Aubree Cota, Ally Goltz and Berklee Hanson, all of those players have also seen time on the wing on JV last season as well.  Sophomore guard/forwards Molly Brodahl and Grace Howe also look to give minutes and earned valuable court time on JV last season

The lone Indian senior this season is 5’8″ forward Regan Wasson who averaged 6.8 points a game last season and will see action at both wing and post play.  6’1″ sophomore forward McKenzie Cooper also averaged 6.8 ppg last season while leading the Tribe in rebounding a season ago, her new starting post partner will be 6’0″ sophomore forward Sydney Ross who put up some impressive number on JV early last year and earned varsity minutes as the season progressed.

Lauren Griffith, a 5’8″ Sophmore wing/forward will start opposite Wasson on the wing for the Indians.  Griffith logged alot of varsity minutes last season which lead to her finishing in the top five in scoring, rebounding, steals and assists for the Tribe a year ago.

Junior 5’8″ forward Carley Sweeney and 6’0″ sophomore Brigid Berns could also see time down low for the Indians this season.

JV game starts at 6:15 tomorrow night with the Varsity game to follow at aproximately 7:30.  Good Luck to the Lady Indians tomorrow and this season!
