Indians begin 2017 with back to back victories.

The Waukon Indian girls basketball team traveled to MFL on Thursday Jan 5th to take on the Bulldogs in their first game after the Holiday break.  The game went back and forth in the early period.  Waukon then got in terrible foul trouble as they had 4 starters with 3 fouls each before halftime.  MFL capitalized with a small run to end the half with a 38-31 lead.

Waukon trailed by as much as 10 on multiple possessions thru the early period.  The Indians caught fire and were ignited by sophomore point guard Maddie Ahlstrom who was making her return to the line up after rehabbing a summer knee injury.

The Indians outscored MFL 22-9 in the fourth quarter and gained a come from behind 67-58 win.  Ahlstrom lit up the Bulldogs for a career high 25 points, hitting four 3 point attempts and going 5-5 from the free throw line.  Sophomore Forward Lauren Griffith also finished in double figures with 11 points, knocking down 3 long distance shots as well.  Forwards Carley Sweeney and Sydney Ross each scored 8 points respectively for the Tribe

The Indians were back on the road the next night Friday Jan 6th as they headed to Charles City for a NEIC matchup.  Both teams played a bit sluggish and the game stayed close throughout.  Waukon pulled away in the second half for a 39-27 win over the Comets.  Maddie Ahlstrom paced the Tribe with 10 points on the night.

Indian Varsity Girls end first half of season with 3 tough losses

On Dec 13th the Indians were defeated by class 3A #6 ranked Crestwood by a score of 62-28.  The Indians trailed by a mere 10 points at halftime but were outplayed in the second half by a Cadet team who got very hot offensively.

On Dec 19th the Indians played only their second home game of the year as they hosted Clayton Ridge.  The Indians trailed by 3 at halftime and trailed by 7-10 most of the second half and could not get over the hump.  Opportunities were there but just not in the cards for the Tribe as they fell by the score of 41-32.

On Dec 20th the Indians hosted Waverly Shell Rock and were outplayed from the get go by the always dominant Go Hawks.  Waukon was defeated 53-19.  The Indians are now 2-6 as they head into holiday break.

Indian Jr High girls end season

The Waukon Indian 7th grade girls finished their final week of Jr High season with a tough loss to MFL and then bounced back with a  33-16 win vs Cresco to end their first school season with a 7-2 record.

The Waukon 8th grade girls continued their undefeated ways as they defeated MFL and Cresco to finish 9-0, making them 19-0 overall in their Jr High career!
