Indians fall to Kee High in Season Opener

Posted in Uncategorized on November 27, 2017 by waukongirlsbball

Waukon girls basketball started the 2017-18 season off vs their county neighbor as they hosted the Kee High Kee Hawks.  Kee defeated the Indians by a score of 56-40.  Kee jumped out to 6 point lead by the end of a fast paced first quarter.  Kee used their length and zone defense to keep the Tribe in check.   Waukon hit three long range shots from behind the arc in the early going, one each by Maddie Ahlstrom, Mckenzie Cooper and Grace Howe to keep the game within a few possesions.

However the Indians went cold from deep range through the 2nd period and early 3rd quarter.  Kee lead by 10 at halftime.

Waukon kept pressure on with full court defense the whole game and the Kee Hawks found the route through it and to the basket for some nice scores inside.  Waukon kept in comeback territory  with 2 more 3 point bombs from Ahlstrom.  But Kee High was too much in the end and secured a victory.

Kee had 4 players in double digits. Led by Chloe Severson with 13 points and 14 rebounds.  Kendra Cooper and Ashley Schwartzoff each added a dozen points, and Makayla Walleser had 10 to lead a balanced Kee attack.

Waukon was lead by Ahlstrom with 9.  Cooper had 7 for the Tribe.

Waukon hosts New Hampton Friday December 1st.
