Indian Girls Win Season Opener

The Waukon Indian girls basketball team traveled to Kee High for their season opener on Tuesday Nov 20th.

Waukon held a 17 to 11 lead at the end of the first period and pushed their advantage to 22-14 half way through the 2nd period.  Kee High then applied some pressure and the Indians had a flurry of turnovers to give the Hawks 8 points in about a 50 second span.  Waukon led 26-25 at the half.

The 3rd quarter played about like the first with teams trading baskets until the last minute of the period where Waukon took a 6 point lead into the final frame.

The Tribe controlled the pace and extended their lead by taking smart shots and making Kee High extend and resort to fouling late in the game.  The Indians ended with a 50-37 victory.

Maddie Ahlstrom led the Tribe with 16 points and 5 assists, while also tied for a team high 7 steals.  Annika Headington had 11 points and 10 rebounds.  Sydney Ross and Lauren Griffith both chipped in 8 points for the evening.
